Tootles
Last week at the library, I checked out a Thomas the Train DVD for Zack to watch to see if he was interested in that stuff (the answer: no). Well, the first time Sam wanted to watch it she asked if they could watch Tootles. I had no idea what she was talking about until she brought me the DVD. So I tried to tell her it's not called Tootles but Thomas. All week long she has referred to it as Tootles. Now it has really been frustrating me because I can't seem to understand why she keeps calling it Tootles when Thomas is so easy to remember. Well, I got my answer tonight. When we were reading books before bed, I asked her which ones she has picked out and she showed me. We read the first one and afterwards she said, "Now read Tootles." I looked at the book and all comprehension came to me. We have this really old book (one that I read when I was her age or even my brothers had before that) and it is called "Tootles." It is about a train that looks very similar to Thomas. We have read that book since she was a baby and now I can see why she thinks Thomas is Tootles just because they look so much alike and that is what she is use to seeing/reading. I now feel bad for being so frustrated with her all week when I now see what she was thinking. Needless to say, I don't think we ever will be a Thomas household. We are Tootles fans.

Sayings
Sam while she was eating her Cheerios this morning looks at me and says, "Mom, I need more milk. This milk is melting."
And I have to get Andy on this. Andy had already fallen asleep and I was laying right next to him in bed for like 45 minutes watching TV. When I shut the TV off, he half sits up and says, "Hello?" So I grab his hand just to try to let him know its me and go back to sleep when he asks, "What are you doing here?" I reply, "This is my bed." He got really confused by that answer and I busted up laughing to the point I was crying. Poor Andy, I don't think he knows what was going on. (Side note: I just talked to Andy and he has no idea that that even happened last night. Even over all my loud laugher, he still doesn't recall any of that. What a fun/sound sleeper he is.)

Sassy Sam
I am going to try to do better at writing a few things down here that the kids say so we can try to remember in the years to come. So please don't mind us.
Sam was very sassy today. After lunch I wasn't feeling very good but Sam and I were suppose to do a school lesson on winter. I asked her if it would be okay if she went and colored or played dollhouse or even went and watch cartoons while I went and laid down for a bit and then we would do her lesson. Her reply, "Not really." So I asked her again if I can just lay down for a few minutes. Her reply this time, "No." What a sweet, caring little girl she is!

Well, it's about time
I am sure this is what my mother, and a maybe one or two other people, are saying right now. Yes, I have totally slacked off on updating my blog and you know what? I don't care. I have been busy, so there! And I am in a sassy mood as I write this. Anyways, now that that is out of the way. Let's recap Christmas.
Christmas was fun this year. We traveled to my mom and dad's house and spent Christmas with them. Santa even made a special guess appearance on Christmas Eve. Sam was excited. Zack could have cared less.
Christmas morning, we (we being the adults) were all able to get up and get showered and ready for the day even before the kiddo's woke up. So when they finally rolled out of bed and we brought them up stairs, they were super thrilled. This year Santa did a combined gift and got them a massive set of GeoTrax trains. The track was all laid out and trains going and they loved it!!! All Zack would say (and all he does say) is "Choo-choo" with a big ol'grin on his face. Sam was really excited because she is a tom-boy and wanted trains for Christmas. Forget the new clothes for her doll or anything girly of that sort, she just wanted trains. The kids were content playing with their trains for the next half-hour while we made breakfast. Afterwards, we opened up all the other slew of presents. All Sam wanted to do was unwrap, unwrap, unwrap. She didn't want to wait and take turns. Zack on the other hand could have cared less that there were other presents. He just wondered around and would go back and forth from the front room to the train sets. I think I opened up the majority of his presents (yes, the one's I spent all that time wrapping in the first place, aargh!). Santa brought Andy a new razor and me a new griddle so now I can have something to cook pancakes on.
We came back home and had New Year's at our place. I was able to convince my parents to come down and spend it with their favorite daughter so they weren't alone on New Year's. I also had an ulterior motive. The next two days would be perfect work days for my Dad and Andy to work on getting the food storage room done. And this was accomplished. My brother Tony came over and helped run the electrical so I have lots of wall outlets and a nice light under my stairs while Andy and my Dad finish hanging the sheetrock and then built my shelves. All I can say is I love it!!! I have lots of room to put my food that has been sitting in boxes for 4 months in now. We still need to build a diagonal shelving system so I can put all my cans on and then it is completely done. But I love it so far. I have had to restock it quite a bit because I didn't know I was lacking on several items but that is why I am glad January is case-lot month.
Since the food storage room is sheetrocked in, that leaves us with our little soon to be office/bedroom to work on. But for the time being while we wait for more money to come in to finish it, we have turned it into a train room for the kids. We were able to get some super awesome cheap carpet from R.C. Willey and a space heater and now have a permenant place that the trains can be set up on. Andy made the coolest cardboard wall for the time being to help keep the warm air in that room and the kids love it. I have stuck the baby monitor in there so I can be upstairs getting things done and still can hear when any fights break loose.
Andy started back to school last week so once again, we only see him one night a week. He has been working alot of overtime on top of it but you won't hear me complain about that. I love seeing those paychecks on Fridays.
Sam went into Sunbeams two weeks ago and had a rough time with it. Despite us trying to get her excited all week long about going into primary, she sat there and bawled for 10 mintues straight. It doesn't help the fact that we are CTR 6 teachers and are in there with her and she can see us back there but can't come to us so she just cries, "Daddy" over and over again until it breaks your heart and you almost burst into tears because you feel so bad. Yes, this is the emotion I felt that day. This past Sunday she did better. She didn't cry or anything but had to come and get us when we were dismissed to classes and was all upset because she thought we were going to leave her. So hopefully she has gotten it all out of her system and understands the routine a little better and next week will be better. Sam also starts a new dance class tomorrow. I am excited to see how she does.
I have been busy getting some school lessons prepared for Sam so we can start our own little home preschool. I purchased a book for myself at Christmas that has really helped me out. It is called The Giant Encyclopedia of Lesson Plans and any of you Brickyard gals doing the preschool, this book is awesome. It has books that go along with that particular theme and then different options for activities to do with it and then what kind of snack you can serve with the lesson. I have been super excited to do this with Sam and have lessons from here til May planned out. We start this week so I will let you know how it goes. Also, I finally made our holiday cards. I am calling them holiday cards because they were well past Christmas and lets face it, they can be any holiday from here to Valentines and count as a card for that particular time period. Hey, my cousin does a Martin Luther King Jr. Day card so why can't I do a any holiday card. Where is the law that states is has be done by Christmas or not at all? There, I will get off my soap box now.
Zack is becoming a trouble maker. It is so fun to see his personality grow and bloom but I don't love all the trouble that comes with it. He definitely has the "lets see how many times Mom tells me no before I really get in trouble" thing down. He started nursery a few months ago and still struggles with being taken in there. He will cry for a couple of minutes after we leave but the nursery leaders are the sweetest ever and do a great job calming him down. However, they informed Andy on Sunday that they have learned the trick to keep him happy and calm at the beginning. Instead of having snacks later in the class, they make sure to have Zack's ready for him when he comes in the door and he is all fine and happy. Yep, they know my boy!
Lots of pictures follow, if your still with me. I know I wrote alot but hey, lets face the facts. This is more like a journaling blog and I needed to get stuff down so if it was too lengthy for you, who cares. Your not reading at this point anyways. And if you are still with me, congrats for sticking with me and all my ramblings. See, I told you I was in a sassy mood.

Our happy home
Being new homeowners, we were excited for Christmas to come and actually be able to buy Christmas lights and hang them up. Andy did a great job one Saturday morning in a blizzard hanging our lights up. It really just makes the place feel more like home. And we love our tree in our bay window. Just perfect!!
